OUR MISSION:

The Jewish American Nurse Practitioner Psychiatric Association (JANPPA) is a female-founded, nonprofit organization with the twofold mission of providing Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners with resources to succeed professionally. We support fellow practicing and student Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners by coordinating networking opportunities, distributing educational resources, and referrals. Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners utilize their unique skill set bridging the gap between mental health stigma and mental health practices in Jewish Orthodox communities. JANPPA is passionate about increasing mental health awareness in the Jewish Orthodox population by providing the highest quality education to communities and academic institutions.

MEET THE TEAM

 

RIVKY SKLAR

PMHNP,MSN,RN, BSN-

FOUNDER & PRESIDENT

Rivky Sklar is a Board-Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner licensed in NJ, who graduated magna cum laude from Wilkes University. Rivky works in multiple settings including a PHP/IOP, detox and rehabilitation center, and private practice at Empower Health Center in Lakewood. She treats a wide range of mental health conditions including Depression, Anxiety, OCD, ADHD, Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, and Addiction. Rivky uses evidence-based practice in medication management and psychotherapy. She provides a safe, confidential, non-judgmental environment, giving clients the tools to help improve outcomes and successes. Rivky is passionate about mental health and creating a support network for fellow PMHNP; increasing mental health education and awareness in the Jewish Orthodox Community, one PMHNP at a time, is her goal.

 

DANIELLE KATZ, DNP, APRN, PMHNP-BC-FOUNDER & BOARD MEMBER

Co-founder Dr. Danielle Katz is a Connecticut, and New York board-certified licensed Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. With experience in both private practice and clinic settings, she treats individuals of all ages with both medication management and psychotherapy. Danielle graduated with her doctorate from Fairfield University and received the Student Service Award for contributing to the University during the pandemic. Her compassion for others fuels her drive as an asset to JANPPA and the Jewish Orthodox community.

BETHANIE BERSON, DNP, PMHNP, BSRN - BOARD MEMBER

Bethanie is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner who graduated with a Doctorate of Nursing Practice and a Master of Science, Psychiatric Advanced Practice Nursing from Columbia University School of Nursing where she was inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society. She has been in practice for over 10 years, seeing patients with Anxiety, Depression, Bipolar Disorder and Schizophrenia. Bethanie also has a passion for women’s mental health during the perinatal phase of life.  She believes in a collaborative partnership between herself and the client so that a mutually agreed upon plan of action can be developed in order to have the greatest chances of success.

MICAH ENGEL, DNP, PMHNP-BC-

BOARD MEMBER

Dr. Micah Engel is a board-certified NP in psychiatry who completed his MS at NYU and DNP at Touro University. He received several years of training and supervision at Four Winds Hospital and Mosaic Mental Health. He provides medication management and therapy for children and adults. His specialties include autism, pediatric ADHD, depression, trauma, anxiety, and OCD.

RIVKA KRAMER, PMHNP-BC-

BOARD MEMBER

Rivka is a Board Certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner licensed in NYS and the owner of Sage Integrative Psychiatry a private practice in the Five Towns . Driven by a profound passion for psychopharmacology and a keen curiosity to uncover the underlying causes of mental health challenges, Rivka approaches her practice as an integrative psychiatric provider, blending a comprehensive understanding of medication with a holistic view of treatment.
